Strap End with Inset Silver Designs
Title
Strap End with Inset Silver Designs
Subject
8century 7century 6century Viking metal belt burial style wealth
Description
This strap end was created in the Pre-Viking, Late Iron Age period in Scandinavia. Although, functionally, the strap end served as the end of a belt, opposite the buckle, it also stood for something more: status. Evidence corroborates the notion that only high-ranking, male Scandinavians would wear such a strap end.
Additionally, the strap end, with an Eastern-inspired "dragon" engraving represents movement of culture throughout the world during this time period.
